Cinnamon Swirl Cake
What you need
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 150g butter
- cinnamon
Salt, pepper, water and oil don’t count. Mom always had those.
What you do
Make a plain batter. Pour half into the tin, sprinkle a mix of cinnamon and sugar over, add the rest, and drag a knife through once. Bake forty-five minutes.
How it feels to make
Cutting the first slice to see whether the swirl worked is genuinely suspenseful.

Once through with the knife. Twice and you've mixed it back in.
